Here at Evergreen Academy, our teachers are called to use their vast experience in the classroom to guide and nurture your child’s development. Our grade school teachers all have experience within the traditional school board and will bring the best of what they have implemented over the years.

However, given that our focus is to expand beyond the limitations of the public school system and incorporate STEAM lessons in conjunction with our favorite education philosophies, we have also provided our teachers with incredible tools including STEAM resources, Waldorf resources, the Vallieres Method toolbox and homeschooling resources such as GatherRound (our preferred Charlotte Mason resource which we love to reference for their great lesson plans).

Diana and Tanya discovered the below resources while homeschooling. They are not meant to be used in isolation but rather for your child’s teacher to augment and enhance their educational experience. Some of our favorite resources are listed below:

STEAM PROGRAM

STEAM education results in students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process.

SAXON MATH

The Saxon program is based on the teaching principles of incremental development, continual practice and review, and cumulative assessment.

It involves teaching a new mathematical concept every day and constantly reviewing old concepts.

The Saxon Math 1 to Algebra 1/2 (the equivalent of a Pre-Algebra book) curriculum is designed so that students complete assorted mental math problems, learn a new mathematical concept, practice problems relating to that lesson, and solve a variety of problems.

Tuttle Twins

The Tuttle Twins series helps convey the principles of freedom to kids in a fun way. Each book focuses on a different aspect of the principles of a free society: free market, competition, individual rights, the non-aggression principle, personal responsibility, protectionism, and a variety of other issues.

  • Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life

    Charlotte Mason

  • “Study the science of art. Study the art of science.”

Leonardo Davinci - for STEAM inspired education

  • “Today’s education system does not focus enough on teaching children to solve real-world problems and is not interdisciplinary, nor collaborative enough in its approach....(STEAM) is the type of education we need”

Naveen Jain - Founder World Innovation Institute

  • The mind is capable of dealing with only one kind of food; it lives, grows and is nourished upon ideas only; mere information is to it as a meal of sawdust to the body.

    Charlotte Mason

  • Our highest endeavor must be to develop free human beings, who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives.

    Rudolf Steiner - Waldorf Education

  • “The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.”

    Maira Montessori

  • “The child has a different relation to his environment from ours… the child absorbs it. The things he sees are not just remembered; they form part of his soul. He incarnates in himself all in the world about him that his eyes see and his ears hear.”

    Maira Montessori

  • “The question is not,—how much does the youth know? when he has finished his education—but how much does he care? And about how many orders of things does he care? And, therefore, how full is the life he has before him?”

    Charlotte Mason

  • Nature is a tool to get children to experience not just the wider world but themselves

A typical day in JK/SK?

Our little ones have very different needs than grade school yet they have so much brilliance. We encourage them to be our master teachers as we delve into character development, emotional regulation, team work and skill development. We have a Montessori inspired classroom that offers all 5 core components; (1) individual work, (2) freedom to work at your own pace, (3) sensorial activities (touch, movement, sight & sound) (4) self-directed study and, (5) peaceful enviroment. We offer the five key areas of study: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language, and Cultural/Science Studies. We also offer extracurricular class that include; music, art, drama and STEAM.

We ensure Math, and Language Arts (English), are taught while daily rotating through science, geography, history, social studies and more! Professional Dance, Drama, and Art Teachers are also on staff. Our hands-on learning, student-guided deep dives, and our elective options allow our students to develop independence, critical thinking, and imagination.
